About

There are only three rules at Spark

Your story must be true
It must be something that happened to you
And it must be up to five minutes long

With a different theme at each event, all members of the audience are invited to get up on stage and share their personal stories. Our aim is to connect people through shared experiences and you’ll often find yourself talking to friends and strangers about the memories each story sparks.

We hold regular live nights Upstairs at the Ritzy in London’s Brixton and at the Catford Mews in south-east London. We also host special one-off events.

You can subscribe to our award-winning podcast via this website, or by searching “Spark True Stories” in your podcast app.

Spark has produced shows at the Edinburgh Festival, Foyles, the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Manchester Town Hall, Soho Square, the Underbelly Festival, the Blue Elephant Theatre, and more.

We are a small team who believe in the power of storytelling. Everyone who comes to Spark, whether to listen or to share their experiences, plays a big part in what we do. If you are looking to volunteer we’d love to hear from you, contact sparktruestories@gmail.com.

How Spark began

Spark London was founded in 2007 by Joanna Yates, a business psychologist who overcame dyslexia to become an expert on the art of storytelling. Since then, thousands of true stories have been told live from Spark stages.
